Former Green Eagles footballer Peter Anieke has died at the age of 68.
According
to several reports, Peter Anieke died on Monday, April 20 after a
prolonged battle with acute rheumatism and arthritis.
Peter started his career in 1967 and also played for Stationary Stores of Lagos where his goal scoring exploits earned him the nickname ‘Eusebio of Africa’.
A
product of the renown Academicals of the 60s, he was a member of
Nigeria’s soccer team to Mexico 1968 Olympic Games and thereafter moved
to the senior team where he played regularly beside the likes of Paul Hamilton, Austin Ofokwu, Joe Opone, Segun Olumodeji, Ken Igwe, Amusa Shittu, Tunde Disu, Muyiwa Oshodi and Late Sam Garba Okoye for 15 years.
He retired as an administrator in PHCN
as a Senior Manager Administration and also trained as a coach in
Hungary going to to handle the then NEPA Football Club then, taking them
to the final of the national Challenge Cup.
He is survived by a wife and 6 children.
