The U-20 National Team, Flying Eagles, will begin the journey of participation at this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup finals by flying to Germany on Saturday for a three-week final camping programme.
NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi confirmed on Friday that a contingent of
25 players and 10 officials will travel aboard a Lufthansa Airline flight from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Saturday evening and arrive in Germany on Sunday morning.
“FIFA have finally been able to secure seats on Lufthansa for the players and officials and they will all travel on Saturday,” Sanusi said. Officials also confirmed that players and officials will be decked in NIKE tops, in the spirit of the Kit sponsorship deal signed with the American sportswear manufacturers in London last week. Arrangements have been made to move the delegation from Frankfurt to Nuremberg, the German city where they will be based for three weeks before they fly to New Zealand onMay 25 for the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals, starting on May 30.
Five of the overseas-based players will join the team in Germany to take the players’ tally to 30, out of which the final list of 21 will emerge for the World Cup in two weeks. Tottenham Hotspur’s Musa Yahaya and Chidera Ezeh of FC Porto in Portugal are flying out with the team from Abuja.
Nigeria’s first match of the championship is against Brazil in New Plymouth on the first day of June, and the African champions will also play North Korea and Hungary in Group E.
