Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike
has called for peace and unity in South Africa following the xenophobia
attacks that over taken the country.
The Fernabahce striker, who started
his career outside Nigeria in South Africa where he featured for FC Cape
Town and Mpumalanga Black Aces, has urged those who are attacking their fellow Africans to stop the killing so that we could have one big united Africa.
The AFCON 2013 highest goal scorer,
who still has families and friends in South Africa, said African leaders
have to come together for a united Africa and said what is happening in
South Africa is strange to him.
"I can't believe what is happening in South Africa," Emenike told AfricanFootball.com
"I
believe we should have moved beyond this stage in Africa. We should
always see ourselves as one irrespective of where we come from.
“I am therefore calling for unity
among other Africans. I am proud to be African, it is always a pleasure
to be united as one big family, do things in common and assist ourselves
rather than killing ourselves. I believe in Africa and we should be
proud of ourselves."
Emenike further said, "While I was in
South Africa, I never experienced such a thing and its look very
strange to me seeing such killings and destruction of properties.
"This is not the time for
retaliation, everybody needs to come out to save the situation and call
for peace. We don't want war in our continent. We need peace and Unity.
God Bless Nigeria, God Bless South Africa and God bless Africa as a
whole."
