Kelechi Iheanacho scored his second goal in four day for Manchester
City Under-21 in their 3-2 victory over Leicester City in the semi final
of the International Premier League cup.
Playing under the watchful eyes of first team coach Manuel Pelligrini,
the Nigerian who came in as a substitute scored and set up another to
force the game into extra time.
Iheanacho who only recently returned from an injury and scored in the
youth FA cup loss to Chelsea drew his side level in the 57 minutes after
coming on as a second half substitute.
The 18 year old came close to equalising for his side for the second
time in the 79th minute but he was twice denied in quick succession by
Adam Smith in goal for Leciester City.
However he showed there is more to his game than just goal scoring when
he teed up Jose Pozo who finished to draw Man City back into the game
at 2-2.
Once again with three minutes left to play Iheanacho almost snatched
victory for Manchester City but he couldn't gather the ball quickly from
a punched Brandon Barker effort.
He continued to partner well with Pozo in the Man City attack but their
combination failed to lift City as they had to settle for a 2-2 after
90 minutes.
Manchester City got the breakthrough in the second half of extra time
to go ahead for the first time in the game through Manu Garcia.
The City youngsters hanged on to claim a 3-2 win and book their place in the final of the tournament.
Ahead of the Under-20 World cup he is now expected to arrive camp next
week to join his Nigeria counterparts after coming unscathed from two
games in four days.
