World Softball Championship: Nigeria Will Not Be Intimidated By Japan — Laniyan

The Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA), says it will not be intimidated by the presence of Japan, the defending champion in their pool, at the forthcoming World  Softball Championship.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria is in Pool A alongside China, Japan, Ecuador and Great Britain in the tournament that will hold from Aug. 9 to Aug. 15 in the
U.S.
The NBSA’s Secretary, Kehinde Laniyan told NAN in Lagos that preparations for the upcoming event would be intensified to boost the team’s chances of performing creditably at the championship.
“Japan is one of the strongest softball playing nations, and they are also the defending champion of this competition which makes the group a tough one.
“But our team will not be frightened because of this, rather all measures will be adopted by the association to boost the team’s preparations,’’ he said.
On preparations for the forthcoming U-18 National Softball championship scheduled to hold in May, he said that preparations were at an advanced stage to ensure a hitch-free tournament.
Laniyan said that the aim of the championship was to select players that would represent Nigeria at the forthcoming World Softball event.
He added that the best baseball and softball team at the championship would receive N300, 000 each as prize money.

The championship will hold from May 5 to May 9 in Ilorin, the Kwara capital in Nigeria.
