Debutants make Federation Cup history

Imagine a match against a team called Kukuruku Dragons?
Well, Kukuruku Dragons, will be amongst the contestants when the state finals of the 2015 Federation Cup takes centrestage across the country on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5.
That is the nature of knockout competition which brings out unfamiliar teams all parts of the
country.
For football fans in Edo State, Kukuruku, is the new kid on the block and like others have a chance to hug the headlines depending on their ability to create upsets.
Another new name that will light up the national stage is God’stime from Ekpan, in Delta State.
God’stime may be new in the trade, but coached by former Delta United and Warri Wolves coach, Mike Ogborodi, who understands the dynamics of grassroots football.
Ogborodi has been in and out of Warri Wolves.
Interestingly, the team which is only three months old ensured highly rated Wolves will not be part of the 2015 edition.
“As a new team, we started from the first round so we were well prepared for Wolves. In fact, we played four matches before the semifinal victory over Wolves.
“On the eve of our Cup clash against Wolves, we defeated lower division side, Bendel Insurance, 2-0, in a friendly match, in Benin, to boost our confidence,” Ogborodi told supersport.com.
Truthfully, there will be several debutants hoping to make an impact like FC Arugo, which created an upset and became the second non-league side after Alyufsalam Rocks to reach the semifinals.
For the first time, there will also be other new names like BJ Foundation (Edo State), Federal Medical Centre (Kogi State), Kurmi Market or Kasuwan Kurmi in Hausa (Kano), Mighty Juniors (Benue), Nath Boys (Lagos), Christ Ambassadors (Lagos) and Papilo (Imo) amongst others
Indeed, the stage is set for rookies to showcase their potentials and expect the fairy-tale stories of these debutants when the national preliminaries begin later in the year.
