No less than 25 teams – both male and female – will lock horns when the fifth edition of the Lead City University National Five-a-side Indoor Hockey Championship flicks off in Ibadan tomorrow, April 30.
The defending champion in the male class, Abuja-based Police Machine, would be
leading other teams from across the country to the first major hockey championship in the 2015 calendar of the Nigeria Hockey Federation.
The Coach Tunde Odedokun-tutored Ibadan Queens, who won the female class crown last year, despite stiff challenge from runners-up, the IGP Babes, have vowed to retain their crown when the tournament begins.
The initiator of the competition, Mrs. Lade Aloba, assured the participating teams of “a swell time playing at the dynamic indoor hockey at the much improved indoor court of the Lead City University, Ibadan, as well as a complete welfare package.
The Oyo State Hockey Association chairman, Tunde Odedokun, has assured players of fair officiating, adequate security and a comfortable accommodation at the competition which would close on May 3.
