International Table Tennis Federation Player of the Year, Aruna Quadri, will be the star of the show as the 2015 ITTF-African Championship serves off in Cairo today. Egypt is the leading team on the continent but Nigerians expect Quadri to lead a side that will finally overtake the North African country as the number one in Africa. Quadri is the highest ranked player in the tournament, 30th in the world rankings and was earlier in the year named the best player in the world a success that may put extra pressure on him but he has vowed to overcome that.
“It is true that the awards have somehow put me under pressure but working harder and harder will surely make me overcome the pressure. I just have to keep playing just like I have been doing without any fear.”
The tournament will open with women teams playing in the first round and experienced Funke Oshonaike is expected to inspire the younger players as they attempt to bounce back to reckoning in Africa
