Seattle Sounders forward Obafemi Martins has been honoured as the MLS Player of the Week after week 9 round of matches, the Major League Soccer announced Tuesday.
Martins scored a brace and also picked up an assist on Clint Dempsey's goal in Sounders 3-1 win over
New York City FC on Sunday. He was also named in the MLS Team of the Week.
One of Martins's goals was a delight to see as it was the end point of a through ball from 18-pass attacking sequence for Sounders.
The other of the pair came off a separate through ball and ended with a vintage Oba cartwheel and backflip. The former Birmingham City forward now has six goals.
He scored 17 goals for Seattle Sounders last season.
