NPFL Week 7 Review: Giwa Reclaims Top Spot, As Heartland stumbles in Owerri

Mixed feelings in Port-Harcourt where there was a Glo Premier League double-header on Match Day 7 but soccer-loving people of the Garden City were proud Dolphins and Sharks stood the test of time against Lobi Stars and FC Taraba respectively.
A rather painful ending at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri as Heartland FC suffered the
biggest defeat thus far this season at the hands of the high flying Sunshine Stars.
Giwa FC returned to the summit of the Glo Premier League standing after a commanding 3-1 home defeat to Bayelsa United, as Enyimba International fired blunt away to Ifeanyi Ubah United.
Sharks 2-2 FC Taraba
Sunday’s early kickoff ended in a foursome spectacle with FC Taraba twice pulling back to stave off a morale boosting draw at the Liberty stadium.

Mohammed Usman and Chinedu Ohanachom  restored parity for Taraba after Thompson Stowe and Chiamaka Madu had each placed the hosts in ascendancy.
Dolphins 2-0 Lobi Stars
Second-half quick-fire goals from Sochima Elum and Jonathan Zikiye dealt Lobi their second defeat of the season.
The Markurdi-based outfit are yet without a win this season having drawn five of their matches. The win was Dolphins’ second.
Gabros FC 2-0 Enyimba
Chukwudi Stephen and Chibuzor Okonkwo got among the goals for Gabros in the second half, as the Glo Premier Lesgue returnees claimed the oriental derby.
Giwa FC 3-1 Bayelsa Utd
Giwa proved the strongest Elephants of Match Day 7 after an emphatic win over Bayelsa. The Restoration Boys were already 3-0 down after Charles Okoro, Edoh Ocheme and Ibrahim Shuaibu all netted to help Giwa stamp their feet on proceeding.
Tonbara Tongoli’s late goal for Bayelsa was all but consolation for the one-time Nigerian champions, who have now lost three times this season.
Giwa are back at the top of the table for a second time in the space of a fortnight with 14 points from a possible 21.
Heartland 0-3 Sunshine Stars
Sunshine Stars produced the shock result of the day with a commanding display at Heartland.
A Tunde Adeniji brace and Prince Aggrey’s late strike accounted for the ‘Naze Millionaires’s’ third defeat of the season.
The hosts had their captain Nelson Ogbonnaya sent off for a second book able offence but it was all but a huge result for the ‘Akure Gunners’ who now trail leaders Giwa by just a point in third place.
Other Match Day 7 Results
El-Kanemi 1-0 Akwa Utd
Wikki 4-2 Rangers
Heartland 0-3 Sunshine Stars
