The Nigeria Football Federation has praised the swift action by its Referees Committee and the Nigeria Referees Association against Referee John Charles and Assistant Referee Ogunta Matador for very poor performance in a Glo Premier League Week 4 match between Sunshine Stars and Dolphins FC in Akure on Sunday.
Speaking on Tuesday, NFF’s Acting President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, commended the
quick move by the Referees Committee, headed by another member of the NFF Executive Committee Yusuf Ahmed Fresh, in suspending the officials for the rest of the current football season.
“The NFF is thoroughly impressed with the swift action of the Referees Committee. I want to say that the Committee has acted very much in line with the vision of the present NFF administration to bring about positive change in every aspect of our football.
“Their action is a pointer to the fact that the present administration headed by Mr. Amaju Pinnick will not tolerate mediocrity in whatever form. The two officials brought the Nigeria game to ridicule and deserve what they got.”
Akinwunmi went ahead to confirm that the NFF will investigate the shoddy outing of the referees and will swiftly implement the recommendations of the investigating panel.
“I must also commend the League Management Company for their efforts at engendering a new way of doing things, and genuine steps to address so many flaws in the domestic game. We all have to work together to bring back the glory days of our domestic game.”
