ALL-AFRICA GAMES: FALCONS up against familiar foes


Ghana’s Black Queens, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana and Cameroon’s Lionesses are among the teams that have joined Nigeria’s Super Falcons in reaching the Women’s Football Tournament of the 11th All-Africa Games.

The Games, slated for September 3-18 in Brazzaville, will also welcome Egypt’s Female Pharaohs,
Tanzania’s Twiga Stars and the Les Elephantes of Cote d’Ivoire. Host Congo-Brazzaville qualified automatically.
Falcons turned back Mali 9-1 on aggregate, while Ghana edged Zimbabwe 4-3 after both teams finished 2-2 in Harare on Sunday, after a 2-1 first leg win for the Black Queens.
Egypt shocked Senegal 2-1 in Dakar after both teams finished 0-0 in Cairo, and Tanzania has away form to thank after falling 3-2 to Zambia in Dar es Salaam. The Twiga Stars had won the first leg 4-2 in Lusaka.
South Africa pounded Botswana 5-0 at Dobsonville for a 6-0 aggregate; Cameroon won 2-1 each leg over Ethiopia and; Cote d’Ivoire qualified following the withdrawal of Guinea-Bissau.
