AAG 2015 Qualifier: Super Falcons thrash Mali 8-0, qualify for All-Africa Games

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will be one of the eight teams to take part in the Women’s Football Tournament of the 11th All-Africa Games, in Congo-Brazzavile in September this year, after spanking Mali’s Senior Women Team 8-0 in the return leg of an only qualifying fixture in Abuja on Friday.
Foreign-based stars Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie and Francesca Ordega got a
brace each, with another foreign-based Esther Sunday getting her name on the scoresheet after Captain Evelyn Nwabuoku had scored the goal of the evening, slamming in from the edge of the box off a corner kick. The fixture ended 9-1 in favour of Nigeria, as both teams tied 1-1 in Bamako three weeks ago.
The Falcons, winners of the gold medal of the women’s football at the 2003 and 2007 All-Africa Games events, return to the showpiece after missing the 2011 competition in Mozambique.
France –based Oparanozie opened the floodgate after barely three minutes, and USA –based Ordega made it two, before Oparanozie fed England –based Oshoala and the latter returned the compliment for a 4-0 lead at half time.

Oshoala braved the odds to make it five two minutes after resumption, and Ordega completed her brace after some brilliant interchange of passes. Nwabuoku had her say shortly after, and Esther Sunday then powered into the net from a rebound.
The scoreline could have been more damning, but the Falcons can at least look forward to another fixture with the Malians in a 2016 Olympics qualifier, with the first leg in Abuja in four weeks’ time.
