Omeruo substituted, as Lawal sees red

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, was not in his best form when Middlesbrough lost to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday. After promotion-chasing rivals, Derby County, lost to Fulham earlier on Saturday, a win for Middlesbrough would had shot them to the top of the Championship standings and boosted their chances of gaining promotion to
the English Premier League.
But goals from Atde Nuhiu and Will Keane did the trick for Sheffield Wednesday with Omeruo, producing perhaps his worst performance so far this season, giving away a penalty and proving to be a liability throughout proceedings in Yorkshire.
It therefore came as no surprise, when he stormed down the tunnel after he was taken off in the 58th minute. Omeruo wasn’t the only Nigeria international to take an early bath at the weekend as Raheem Lawal was shown a straight red card while in action for Turkish Super league side Eskisheirspor on Saturday as they lost 3-0 to Godfrey Oboabona’s Rizespor.
Lawal, who only last week posted a man of the match performance against Besiktas, was sent off in the 18th minute of the encounter, while Oboabona was an unused substitute for Rizespor.

That wasn’t the case though for Nigerian striker, Obafemi Martins, who was in action and also on target for his MLS club, Seattle Sounders, in their win against Sporting KC in their last preseason match ahead of Sunday’s season opener against the New England Revolution. Another MLS-based striker, former Nigeria junior international, Fanendo Adi, scored the only goal of the game for Portland Timbers in their pre-season encounter against Stabaek.
