Enyimba Fc announced that they have change their club logo on their website.
In a statement issued by the club, it reads
:
"After 39 years and several trophies, we have decided to redesign our club's badge.
Established in November 1976 by Sir Jerry Amadi Enyeazu, the Director of Sports in the newly created Imo State, we started as a small provincial club with a simple logo of an elephant hoisting a flag.
In 1991, Abia State was carved out of Imo State and the town of Aba, our hometown was a part of the new state. By 2001, we had won our first Nigeria Premier League title and retained it the following year. In the same 2002, we redesigned our badge to reflect our new status as Nigerian champions.
By 2010, we had won six Premier Leauge titles, two CAF Champions League and two FA Cup crowns. Our badge got a little clean up that year to celebrate our achievements but it retained the symbols of our origins, an Elephant kicking a ball.
Today, we believe that elephant no longer reflects our identity as Nigeria's most succesful football club. We believe a bigger, stronger and more powerful Elephant is needed for these times and for the future.
So we have decided to redesign our badge to reflect this new Elephant; powerful, proud and unafraid because in Nigerian club football, there can only be One People's Elephant. This new badge will become the new symbol of Enyimba Football Club for many, many years to come."
