Kaduna United’s General Manager, Garba Lawal , has quickly reacted to reports in the local media that claimed he can not account for $150,000 being the transfer income from the sale of Efe Ambrose to MS Ashdod.
The retired Nigeria international has revealed that Sabo Babayaro attempted to steal
the funds by opening a fresh domiciliary account denominated in euros at Sterling Bank before he was stopped by officials of the bank.
Lawal has advised Kaduna - based sports writer Mohammed Suleiman, who is on the payroll of Sabo Babayaro and his public relations officer, to always check his facts before going to the press adding that Babayaro will deny him when push comes to shove.
“Sabo Babayaro opened another domiciliary account and transfered the money there. On Tuesday (three days ago), he went to the bank to withdraw 40,000 euros but they refused to give him,” said Garba Lawal .
“Babayaro did not know I had taken a letter from the Permanent Secretary instructing Sterling Bank not to release any money to him. There is no way they will give him the statement or the account balance going forward.
“I was paid last October for three months and they are still owing me for 13 months but I am not bothered. Babayaro will go the EFCC if he takes any money out of the transfer fee.”
The Atlanta 1996 gold medalist has blamed Sabo Babayaro for Kaduna United’s recent misfortunes due to greed, and went on to say that the players and officials were owed seven months wages when he joined the team.
“Suleiman Mohammed is writing nonsense. They were owing seven months salary before I joined the team.
“For more than ten years Sabo Babayaro was at Kaduna United, what did he do with all the money given to him by the government?
“Because of his selfish interest, the transfer fee would have been paid more than four and a half years ago, but he kept providing a private account number to Ashdod.
“Babayaro put Kaduna United into this mess. What did he do with the =N=180 million - =N=250 million per season he got from the state government? The money has been squandered.
“It is because of the $150,000 he came back to Kaduna United, over my dead body will he steal again from Kaduna United,” the ex Roda midfielder concluded.
