Anthony Ujah scored his first league goal in two months as FC Cologne drew 1-1 with Hannover 96 in an exciting Bundesliga game at RheinEnergieStadion on Saturday.
Hannover’s central defender Salif SanĂ© under hit a defensive header in the 17th minute and Ujah was in no mood to let him off the hook.
The 24-year-old anticipated impressively and planted a precise header past the helpless Germany international goalkeeper, Ron-Robert Zieler in goal for Hannover on the night.
Ujah’s goal temporarily tied the score after Joselu netted early to give the visitors a fifth minute advantage.
The Nigerian was not resting on his laurels though and almost netted the winner on 73 minutes.
He showed impressive upper body strength and composure to get past several Hannover defenders and with the net almost certain to bulge, Zieler denied the Nigerian with a super save.
The point gained on Saturday lifted Cologne up to 13th on the Bundesliga standings with 25 points from 22 games.
Ujah was not exactly displeased with his side’s exertions on the day and took to Twitter to share his sentiments.
“One point today. We shall keep on fighting #effzeh,” he twitted via @ujah_9.
Ujah has now scored seven league goals this season and nine in all competitions following the two he netted in the DFB Pokal (German Cup) against Braunschweig on August 16, 2014.
Next up for Ujah and friends is a daunting visit to the Allianz Arena on February 27 to face the powerful champions, Bayern Munich.
