Team Nigeria targets nine gold medals in Ethiopia

Coaches Coordinator, Seigha Porbeni, has said they are targeting nine gold medals in Ethiopia as Team Nigeria attempts to defend the title they won two years ago in Mauritius.
According to Porbeni, the enthusiasm and attitude to work by the athletes have given the coaches such hope ahead of the African Junior Athletics Championship in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

“The way the athletes have been responding to training, we are sure of getting good results in Ethiopia,” Porbeni said. “I think we can surely win between nine and 10 gold medals which can earn us victory at the championship.
Besides, we have about six other events where we are in doubt of getting gold medals, but if we work on the athletes, we can still get gold from those events. “In total we are looking at between 13 and 14 gold medals.
We look good in the women’s 4x100metres and 4x400metres relays, same applies the sprints.” He however expressed doubt over the boys’ 4×100 metres but he added that the coaches would work on the boys to achieve results.

He said: “We are fully focused on what we are doing here and I am sure we can get the needed results. “We have exposed the athletes to the latest level of training
