Oduduru, Brume lead Nigeria to Ethiopia


The Athletic Federation of Nigeria on Thursday released the final list of the athletes that will be represent Nigeria at the 12th edition of the African Junior Championship in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The athletes, who have been in camp for two weeks under the tutelage of some of the best coaches in the country, will be looking forward to make the country proud in Ethiopia. Making this declaration was the Technical Director of the AFN, Navy Commodore Omatseye
Nesiama, after addressing the athletes in the presence of the AFN president, Solomon Ogba.
A mini trial was arranged for the athletes inside the Gateway Stadium, Sagamu, Ogun State, to select the athletes that will be travelling for the event. In the boys’ 100m, World Youth Championship silver medallist, Divine Oduduru, lead the pack while Commonwealth gold medallist, Ese Brume, top the list of girls in the 100m.
Speaking with our correspondent who was at their Sagamu camp, the Technical Director said the athletes were picked due to their performance so far in camp.

“They have been working hard to make the country proud in Ethiopia and we believe that they are going to win the competition at the end of the day,” Nesiama said. He however said the team will be departing the country on March 3, via Lagos for the championship starting on March 4 to 8. He also revealed that Oduduru and Brume would lead the team as captains for the competition. Four girls and a boy were dropped from the team currently sweating it out in camp.
