Nigeria's Olympic rower Chierika Ukogu makes history, reaches single sculls semifinals (PHOTOS)


Nigeria's first ever Olympic rower Chierika Ukogu makes history to reach single sculls semifinals. Prior to representing Nigeria, the United States-based athlete had rowed for Mount St. Joseph Academy and Stanford University.

The 23-year-old qualified for the Olympics in October 2015 at the African Olympic Qualification Regatta in Tunisia.
Ukogu who finished fifth in Quarterfinal 3 was initially knocked out but was later recalled to take part in the semifinal C/D 1 Nigerian. The 24-year-old’s event is on Thursday, August 10, 3:30om (Nigerian time).
Congrats to her, for making us proud even in the midst of economic hardship in the country.
