Nigeria's first ever Olympic rower Chierika Ukogu makes history to reach single sculls semifinals. Prior to representing Nigeria, the United States-based athlete had rowed for Mount St. Joseph Academy and Stanford University.
The 23-year-old qualified for the Olympics in October 2015 at the African Olympic Qualification Regatta in Tunisia.
Ukogu who finished fifth in Quarterfinal 3 was initially knocked out but was later recalled to take part in the semifinal C/D 1 Nigerian. The 24-year-old’s event is on Thursday, August 10, 3:30om (Nigerian time).Congrats to her, for making us proud even in the midst of economic hardship in the country.
