EMOEFE KEEN TO RETURN TO NIGERIA LEAGUE

Former U23 international striker Alfred Emuejeraye Emoefe has expressed interest to play again in the top flight of his native Nigeria.
Emoefe, who started his career at Julius Berger [now Bridge Boys FC], joined Swiss top side Grasshopper in 2003.After playing abroad for 11 years he has decided to finish his career in his
home country so as to pass on his experience.
"I started in Nigeria and it would be nice to finish my career there," the Switzerland-based Emoefe said.

"I have received some offers to play in the Swiss lower league and in two Asian countries, but I prefer to return home.
"The plan is to help inspire other young players and also prove to players of my generation that we can also make positive contribution to our own football."

The 32-year-old has expressed interest in playing for another four or five years before retirement.

"In football your body will definitely tell you when to stop but I believe I still have four or five more years to give before I hang my boots," he said.

"It's important to know that the league organisers in Nigeria (LMC) are doing a great job. I've seen the difference already when I read on the internet and whenever I visit Nigeria."

Interestingly, Emoefe said he would love to share his experience in the hands of exploitative people involved in football with younger players.

Citing his own horrible experience, he claims some agents and officials tend to put personal gain before the good of players.

"With the knowledge that I have I believe I will be able to guide upcoming players because there are many wolves out there who exploit African players,” he said.

"I plan to channel all my energy in helping talented footballers because experience is the best teacher.

"I was one of the unlucky few with so much potential but achieved little in the game, so I hope to pass on my knowledge and experience.
"Talent alone cannot make you succeed in Europe because some people are there to capitalise on your vulnerability and take advantage of you.
"Instead of looking back with regrets I want to give back and also help other talent not to end up like me."
But for now he wants to join a small group of Africans who have played in Europe's top leagues and then returned home to see out their career.
Emoefe was the top scorer Nigeria U23 team who won the silver medal of the football event at the 8th All Africa Games in Abuja in 2003.
He was a member of the U23 side who failed to qualify for the football event of the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece.
